Are you planning a vegan trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada? If not, perhaps you’re a local resident looking to discover more of the vegan food and activities in your own Pacific Northwest city.
This week, Karmavore launched a dessert lounge at its space in downtown New West. Back in February, Karmavore celebrated the grand opening of its café at the same location. According to an August 7 press release, the rebranded Karmavore Café + Dessert Lounge (610 Columbia Street) still has a deli—which is now on the main floor rather than downstairs—and serves everything from vegan poutine and chick’n gyros to tiramisu and ice cream cake.

As many of you know, Sarah Kramer has been dealing with breast cancer since her diagnosis earlier this year. Since then, the vegan cookbook author and entrepreneur has faced many challenges, including keeping her curio shop open in downtown Victoria.

Those familiar green pamphlets will soon begin reappearing at local restaurants and shops. Earthsave Canada has printed the 2013 edition of its free Metro Vancouver Veg Directory, and the new PDF is already online.
This handy guide lists vegan, vegetarian, and veg-friendly restaurants, retailers, and products in the region. Gluten-free options and accessible facilities are noted. Additions in this year’s directory include Golden Aura, the Slow Bean, Three Jewels, and the forthcoming Graze.
We all know Sarah Kramer as the coauthor of How It All Vegan! and The Garden of Vegan, and the author of La Dolce Vegan! and Vegan à Go-Go! If you follow the vegan cookbook author and entrepreneur on social media, then you also know she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Since revealing the news on March 14, Kramer has continued to blog about her experiences dealing with infiltrating ductal carcinoma, and become the inspiration for the awareness-raising hashtag #feelyourselfupforsarah on Instagram. She’s scheduled to undergo surgery on April 9.
Of course, Kramer has many friends and admirers who want to help. On her blog, she notes that the best way to support her during this challenging time is to shop at her vegan store, Sarah’s Place (106-560 Johnson Street) in Victoria. Continue reading
