If you have food allergies and abstain from animal products, you might want to check out Wise Bites.

Based in Richmond, the food company launched in October 2012 and showed off its products at Vancouver’s Gluten Free Expo on January 13. According to Wise Bites’ website, all of its baked and packaged goods are “safe for those with the eight most common allergies and sensitivities”. The products are vegan; free of gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, and soy; and made in a dedicated factory.

We picked up a four-pack of Wise Bites’ triple ginger quinoa cookies for $6.49 at Greens Organic + Natural Market (1978 West Broadway) in Vancouver. The top three ingredients are quinoa flour, date paste, and cold-rolled quinoa flakes. Raw ginger root, chia seeds, and cinnamon are also on the list. Although they’re healthier tasting than the cookies we normally go for, they do have a nice spice and chewy texture.

Wise Bites’ baked goods are all based on quinoa. The product line includes chocolate chip and triple fudge cookies; apricot, chocolate, and cranberry orange muffins; and chocolate chip, triple ginger, and triple fudge bars. As for packaged goods, the company sells organic quinoa flour, dairy-free chocolate chips, organic crystallized ginger chunks, organic quinoa pearls, and quinoa flakes.

Aside from Greens, Wise Bites products are available at several retailers in Vancouver and Langley. They can also be ordered through the Wise Bites site.
